I wish I was ἐν οἴνῳ νῦν.
I’m unplugging everything (save for my fridge) in my room, gathering up my things, going to Latin, and then getting on a 3:45 Badger Bus bound for Milwaukee for Thanksgiving weekend. I am so excited. I’m going to get home and in all probability, pass out. OR no wait— Watch newly-purchased Star Trek and all the special features with the fam. That’s the master plan. And have...

Working on Study Abroad application, for a three week summer program in Pompeii and Rome.
I’ve decided that I’ll be making my way around Italy with poor elementary Italian, though primarily with Latin. Maybe this will work in Vatican City.

CIRCUMSPICE GLAUKOPIS NULLAM DICERE POSSUM TOTAM ECLIPSAM CORDIS AETERNITAS ILLAM NOCTEM INCIPIT
This happens when you study Latin too much. You translate parts of ridiculous songs such as Total Eclipse of the Heart into Latin. Though “Glaukopis” is Greek, but it straight up means “bright eyes.”

Striding, beaming, that’s my beloved Underneath the sun he strides and beams At home in the mountains, all alone— My blond beloved Let the sun shine upon you But leave the sun, and come to me Striding, beaming, that’s my beloved The light of my eye, he strides and beams The air is cool and fresh, sleep my love But come back to me You have worked hard in the fields My blond...

Latin for realz
For once, my Latin homework does not concern piratae, lupi, porci, filiae agricolae, nautae, etc.
Yesterday I took my “last Latin midterm on grammar evar,” the class having finished our McKeown textbook, in which pastoral vocabulary is abundant.
Today we started learning about dactylic (from the Greek “δάκτυλος,” meaning “finger,” in reference to the bone...

Latin exam tomorrow
“After si, nisi, num, and ne, all the ali-’s drop away!”
Mnemonic device concerning the omission of “ali-” from the indefinite pronoun/pronomial adjective “aliquis/aliqui” when following the “si, nisi, num, ne” in conditional sentences.

– Jane Gardner, Women in Roman Law and Society.
I saw that thing about posting the 5th sentence of page 56 of the closest book to you, and I thought this was too funny not to put up.

I read this book last year for History 223: Roman Women (and Men)!

Seasonal Albums
Today consists of creative writing workshop assignments, studying Latin, laundry, and listening to seasonal albums. November 15th too early for Christmas music? I say not. Whatever Madison radio staton that already has all holiday music on has greatly improved my days at work.
Currently, my favorite seasonal albums from favorite artists:
Midwinter Graces by Tori Amos
If On A Winter’s...

This evening consisted of occupying the Greek & Latin Reading Room in Memorial Library with Irene for a good number of hours, until closing time, studying Greek for tomorrow’s midterm. (Help us Lord.)
Walking back to our dorm, we stopped on Observatory Hill and laid on the ground for a while to watch the night sky.
We saw a couple shooting stars, including one that has surpassed all...

The Clash of the Titans trailer. Hmmm…
What’re your thoughts?
I was so excited when I saw the 300 trailer several years ago, and it turned out to be utter balls. But holy shit, if Pete Postlethwaite, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, and a bunch of other awesome people are in this, I have to watch it.
Even if it might eventually turn into utter balls.
I just wish the music...
