Pine Tree Gelato
Pineapple basil gelato tastes like pine trees. Or how pine trees smell. (IDK, I haven’t tried to eat pine itself.) No joke. This such flavor was found at Whole Foods today, and being a huge fan of everything about pine trees, it made me very, very happy.
Though my dad when I gave him a try his reaction was this: “AUGH! If I wanted to taste that I’d go outside and gnaw on a...

8tracks: Vulnera
Lately I’ve become quite the fan of 8tracks… Ecce, the last mix I uploaded:
Vulnera: Songs with a touch of vulnerability. (From the latin noun “vulnus” defined as a “wound; mental/emotional hurt; injury to one’s interests; wound of love”).
Features Antony & the Johnsons, Tori Amos, Feist, Damien Rice, Bjork, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
P.S. I’m...

MMX September-December
The past four months can be summed up as follows:
GRADUATE SCHOOL APPLICATIONS AND GRIEF
I’m sure if you’ve been a follower for some time you already know this. I have never been so stressed out for such and extended period of time in my entire life. For a while I was crying at least seven times a week. If not every day, then two or more times to make up for the days sine flens. My...

MMX May-August
I could write a (insert favorite long string of obscenities here) novel that would be turned into a movie about my summer but I won’t because I’m opting for politeness over intimacy (see Thomas Jefferson quote) thus I will keep it brief:
Went to Italy on a three week study abroad program with fifteen fellow students and a professor that I had an utterly fantastic time with— One...

MMX January-May
Spring semester was a good one- not too difficult, though it had its hair-pulling moments.
History 600: Seminar that capped my history major, on the Spanish-American first contact and conquest. Loved my professor; I want to be her when I grow up. I wrote a 20-some page paper with a 10-page image appendix on Aztec pictographic history of the Spanish conquest (that turned into my writing sample for...

MMX Quotes
I guess my year can be summed up in a handful of quotes.
“Audentes deus ipse iuvat.” (God himself helps those who dare.) Ovid
“Carpe diem.” (Seize the day.) Horace
“Χαλεπὰ τὰ καλά” (Beautiful things are difficult.) Plato
“Be polite to all, intimate with few.” Thomas Jefferson
“My good opinion, once lost, is lost forever.” Mr Darcy

TL;DR New Years Eve Edition
I feel like doing some writing. I’ve been prompted/encouraged to do so by friends’ reflections/resolutions entries written at the closing of this year. Lord knows I’ve had one hell of a year. So. #REALLIFE text entries approaching.

Sehnsucht
eeames:
German noun; translated as longing, yearning and craving, or in a wider sense a type of “intensely missing”
Compound word, originating from an ardent longing or yearning (das Sehnen) and addiction (die Sucht)
C.S. Lewis described it as the “inconsolable longing” in the human heart for “we know not what.”

Phonecall from J-Mac
My Latin prof gave out his phone number to the class so we could call him with questions. I did so this evening, left a message inquiring what line in chapter 40 we were to read through for the exam, and just got the call returned:
Me: Hello? J-Mac: Would this be Abby? Me: Yes it is. J-Mac: Hullo, it’s me!
Best phonecall ever.
